This Yoga University in Bihar is the pioneer of yoga studies worldwide

Yoga has been the part of rich culture of India and is being adopted by all over the world now. There are many Yoga centers in the country along with Yoga Ashrams which are promoting this art through their ways in other part of the world. At Munger,Bihar School of Yoga was established in the year 1963 which is World’s first Yoga University. Satyananda Saraswati was the founder this Institute and he started it on the bank of river Ganga.

 Swami Gyan Bhikshu of this Institute said, “Guru of Swami Satyananda was Swami Shivananda and when he visited Munger from Rishikesh ,he started spreading Knowledge of Yoga among the citizens.At that point of time, Swami Satyananda realized the importance and positive effects of Yoga  in the lives of people and inspired to start a Yoga School in the district. Hence he established Ganga Darshan Ashram and gave a push to this art. To spread Yoga, Swami Satyananda Saraswati wrote more than 300 books and the content focused more on application rather the theories of Yoga.”

He also said that it is appreciable that United Nation has declared 21 June as World Yoga Day as it would be beneficial to proliferate Yoga  in the world.

One of the benefits of yoga is that one can choose a yoga style that’s tailored to one’s lifestyle, such as hot yoga, power yoga, relaxation yoga, prenatal yoga, etc. Whether you prefer to practice at home, in a private session, while watching a video or at a gym, there are a huge variety of options available to suit your goals and needs.

By the late 1960s, it had expanded to become an international organisation and by the mid-1970s comprised 54 Ashrams in many other countries in the world.Today t-+his school is not limited to Bihar but it also provides Yoga training to various hospitals, .jails ,colleges and other Institutions of the country. More than 14,000 trained students and 1200 teachers are spreading the art of Yoga throughout the world. In fact the world is now experiencing the life changing impact of yoga and this is the key reason of universal acceptance of it.

Yoga focuses on strength training and flexibility and has  incredible benefit to our body. The postures in Yoga are meant to strengthen our body from the inside out, so we don’t just look good, we feel good, too. Each of the yoga poses is built to reinforce the muscles around the spine, the very center of your body, which is the core from which everything else operates.

The morning of the Ashram starts with daily meditation session  followed by other routine classes. A kirtan programme is organised on daily basis in the evening at 6:30. The school celebrates its foundation day on Basant Panchmi every year. Apart from this , the school also organise various programmes on Guru Purnima, Navaratri, and Shiva Janamotsav. The work of this school has been appreciated by many prominent personalities including ex President Dr. Rajendra Prashad, ex PM Indira Gandhi and Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev. After witnessing the role of this institution in Yoga,ex-President of India Dr. APJ  Abdul Kalam termed Munger as Yoga District.
