Patna Law College Ghat witnessed a new record in State Level Open Ganga River Championship organised on 8th December 2019. The record was set up by Mohammad Shams Aalam Shaikh who is a paraplegic person and a para swimmer from India.
Mohammad Shams Aalam Shaikh completed 2 km swimming ( in time 12:23.04 minutes) in Ganga River at Patna law college Ghat on 8th December 2019 in Mishrilal Memorial Winter Swimming competition 2019 organised by Bihar Swimming Association.
Just few days before, Shams had achieved two more National records at Winter Polish Open Swimming Championship for people with disabilities, held at Szczecin Poland from 20th- 24th November 2019 where he participated in 6 events and stood 1st in 50 meters butterfly S5 category & 100 meters breaststroke SB4 with New national records in both the event.
Keeping his zeal forward, he returned to Patna and participated in Open Swimming Championship organised by Bihar Swimming Association in which the participants had to swim for 2 km in the minimum time limit possible. The competition was won by Ghulam Nabi Azad who took 7:48:39 mins, Ankit Kumar was second with 7:53:94 mins and Manish Kumar took 8:02:82 mins and got the third prize. The event scheduled a record by the para swimmer Shams Aalam who took 12:23:04 mins to swim 2 km of distance.

“I am still working to improve my timing. When I went for Poland Swimming Championship, the basic thing we lack was government support. I might have got some opportunities to reach such competitions but there are more paraswimmers who need basic government support to help them reach National and International championship.”He added, ”I am practising to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics games.”
