Ishit Yamini, a model from Bihar who represented herself at many national and international modeling pageants including Miss Bihar, Femina Miss India, Miss Maxima, etc. As we hear the word fashion, we think of glamour, slim bodies, fairer skin, heavy makeup and many more. Modeling as a career is not an easy option when the country is obsessed with fairness and fair color.
A beautiful and bold soul with sparkling brown skin, Ishit Yamini has made a mark in the fashion industry and broke social norms. She has done Campaigns for Sephora India and International. Yamini was the only Indian face for International Campaign. This campaign promoted #youdoyou which means you do whatever suits you and this brand have foundations for every skin.
Fashion is not confined to being glamourous or having expensive clothes. It’s beyond that, it’s more about accepting yourself and love the way you are. To be comfortable in your own skin and feels confident about oneself. And for the time being able to stand out with positivity and grace, Knowing your real worth regardless of what others think of you.
Ishit Yamini has completed her secondary education from DAV, Khagaul and pursued her higher studies, Bachelors in Bussiness Administration (BBA) from BIT Noida, Delhi. While talking to her she explained that she never thought to get into modeling. Like many students, she was also preparing for her banking jobs and MBA entrance. But she came to her hometown and randomly applied for Miss Bihar pageants and she won. This win encouraged her and drove her in this glamours fashion world. She then applied for Femina Miss India but unfortunately as she didn’t have a passport at that time, she has to leave that contest. She was very raw at that time. She didn’t get dishearted and again participated in Miss Maxima India where she won the runner up title.
After participating in a few contests she discovered that she is quite camera-friendly and decided to pursue her career in modeling. It took time to convince her parents and she finally moved to Mumbai to start her new journey. Talking about her initial stage she said,
“When I first moved to Bombay, I was freelancing and it gets difficult to get jobs like that when you are new. People will take you for granted and they don’t pay you the money you deserve, so it’s very important to sign up with a good agency when you are a fresher. It helps you understand the industry well, and people take you more seriously. I am currently signed up with Toabh, Mumbai”.
Ishit Yamini is also planning to explore acting. Yamini loves experimenting and challenging herself. Her first break was Shoppers Stop Campaign. She has shot for Ponds, Lakme, Sephora, Label Life, Kalki Fashion, Tweak India, Shopper’s Stop, some designer shoots, Roadster Tvc, Renault India Tvc, Sunsilk Tvc, Royal Stag Tvc.
In conversation with Ishit Yamini, she said” If I could tell something to my younger 10-year-old self, I would say that it’s gonna be a long journey to confidence, security, and understanding but always be comfortable calling yourself a dark skin girl. You are not dusky or wheatish. The opposite of fair is dark and it’s lovely too”.
