HomeBiharProud moment for Bihar as Manoj Bajpayee, Rajkumari Devi and Godavari Dutta to receive Padma Shri Mayank Jha Bihar As the constantly ticking clock is progressing towards the 70th Republic Day, people are also eagerly waiting for the names who will be enlisted for the Padma awards 2019, the esteemed civilian awards of the country. The awards are classified in three categories which are, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Well this year’s Padma awards are going to be very glorious for Bihar as Manoj Bajpayee, Bhagirathi Devi, Rajkumari Devi, Jyoti Kumar Sinha and Godavari Dutta, the five gems from Bihar are among the list of Padma Shri awardees. Manoj Bajpayee, the man who needs no introduction has made a name for himself in Bollywood and established himself as a veteran actor who can mould himself for any role. Be it the Sardar Khan from Gangs of Wasseypur or Bhikhu Mhatre from Satya, Manoj Bajpai has constantly proved that this Bihari craftsman is a born actor. Manoj Bajpai hails from Belwa, a small village in Narkatiaganj, Bihar. His struggle span stretches from rejection from National School of Drama, that too for four times, to doing iconic roles in movies like Shool and Pinjar. Coming from a small village of Bihar and winning millions hearts with his talent, makes the story of Manoj Bajpayee, the real motivation for so many people. Godavari Dutta or as we would like to call her, the Grand Old Woman of Madhubani art is an inspiration in herself. This 87 years old artist took Madhubani art to unattainable heights and left no stone unturned to raise the Bihari pride. Coming from Bahadurpur village of Darbhanga district of Bihar, she has seen a lot of struggle. But she tackled them gracefully with her hard work which led her to the road of success. She’s already been honoured by prestigious awards like National award in 1980 and conferred by the title of Shilp Guru in 2006 by then president of India for her astonishing works in Madhubani painting. A Bihar cadre Indian Police Service officer of batch 1967, Jyoti Kumar Sinha is among those honourable people who are enlisted for Padma Shri. He was born in Patna, Bihar and served as Director General of Central Police Force and later as member of the National Disaster Management Authority. After completing his schooling from St. Xavier’s High School, Patna and graduating in History from Patna College, Jyoti Kumar Sinha followed the footsteps of his father and joined IPS. His father late Rai Bahadur Shri A.K. Sinha was the first Indian to become DIG of Police, Bihar in 1939. Bhagirathi Devi’s journey from working as a sweeper in the block development officer in Narkatiyaganj, West Champaran District and earning Rs 800 per month to becoming a member of Bihar Legislative Assembly is quite fascinating. She worked in the field of girls’ education and spent several years creating mahila sangathans in Narkatiyaganj block, organising women and creating awareness around issues that included domestic violence, violence against dalits and fair wages. She later expanded her political activism to other blocks in the district, going to jail in 1991 for organising demonstrations. Rajkumari Devi, or as we call her Kisan Chachi, is a living example of how you can master something with your dedication and hard work. This 58 years old farmer from Muzaffarpur is known for her cycling through the dusty lane of the village and advising people over farming and developing the right agro-based products. Because of poverty she had to hold Spade in her hands which led her to become an example for while country, Rajkumari Devi has achieved it all.
