Chhath Special | This Chhath song has left thousands nostalgic and pulling everyone to come home

Updated: Dec 1, 2023

Gur ki Kheer, Kaddu-Bhaat, and Thekua–Gujiya, everything about Chhath makes ‘Non-Resident Biharis’ nostalgic about the land they grew up in. However, the most nostalgic memory about Chhath is the march to the Ganga Ghats with the suups, and baskets full of fruits while singing Chhath songs.

And, when it comes to songs, Padma Shri Sharda Sinha, is that one artist, who has always ruled the diaspora with her thrilling voice. Chhath without her song is like Diwali without lights, and continuing the legacy Dr Sinha’s latest music video: Pahele pahil hum kayeni chhath; which features model Kristine Zedek, and Kranti Prakash Jha has already hit the playlist of NRBs.

Pahile Pahil Chhathi Maiya beautifully provokes the thought about how urban Biharis are going away from the tradition of such prestigious four-day festival. It literally gives goose bumps and leaves us dewy-eyed. Along with this, it glorifies the fact that people of different cultures have become curious about Chhath and it has tried to bring out the liberal thoughts and open mindedness that one can find in urban Bihari families.

As the Bihari Diaspora has reached every corner of the world, Bihari dishes and culture has also followed them. This exchange of culture has smashed the stereotype people had about Bihar earlier.

Champaran Talkies’s Nitin Chandra, who has directed and Produced the music video along with, Neetu Chandra, Neo Bihar and Swar shradha, told PatnaBeats that what made him produce this video. According to him,

“I have noticed that students passing out from missionaries and English medium schools of Bihar and Purbanchal have very less inclination toward their own geography, its language and culture. So, I had written a story but co-incidentally got an offer from Sharda Sinha Ji to make a video on one of her song.”

He further added Bihari diaspora need to start working toward creating ‘factors for pride’ for Bihari youth and coming generation. Our identity is in abysmal condition.”

Mr Chandra and Dr Sinha’s Video has been celebrated and appreciated by Bihari Diaspora around the nation including noted Bihari celebrities.

Remembering his childhood Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee called the video “Very emotional” he also said that the“video took me back in my childhood time when Chhath puja used to be the most important festival for us.”

While this video reminded Bollywood filmmaker Imtiaz Ali of his birthplace, “It makes me emotional, It will have the same effect on all those who stay away from their birthplace. it’s a warm video. All the best.”

Dr Sinha’s soulful voice and the story of the video bring out the true emotions of nostalgia. Here’s the video for you to be a little nostalgic about chhath.
