NIT Patna’s final year student, Abhas Rai, secured AIR 1 in GATE

Dreams come easy to everyone but not everyone has the vigor to pursue them and convert it into reality. One such personality emerged from the common multitude by breaking the steady pattern of life and is now living his dream. Abhas Rai secured the first rank in GATE, held in the month of February. He topped the chart in electrical engineering by obtaining 87.33 out of 100 amongst 6.5 lac students who appeared for the exam.

Abhas Rai, a final year student of B.tech hails from a small village named Narayanpur located in the Baliya district of Uttar Pradesh. His father, Bhupendra Narayan Rai, a local farmer worked hard to earn and provide for their studies while his mother, Saroj Rai, relocated to Patna with him and his brother, Alok for their better future. Abhas completed his higher education in Patna itself and made it to NIT Patna, a highly reputed engineering institution. He was an intellectual even during his college days and he managed to get himself placed in LLT Constructions. The young dreamer stayed bolted to the ground on receiving a call from the director of IIT Delhi, just half an hour before the results were declared. He couldn’t believe the director when he informed Abhas that he has secured all India first rank in the electrical department. He further says that he was hoping to make it to the top 10 but remained in a state of shock on finding out that he stood first, that too in the very first attempt.

Abhas stands gratified to his former college, NIT Patna for playing a significant role in making him what he is today. He also holds his parents accountable for his success. Talking of his accomplishments, he says he dedicated 6-8 hours of study on a regular basis. His coaching institute was of great help at the time of preparation. He advises youngsters to be diligent and not give up on their dreams.

Abhas clearly is an inspiration, not only to GATE aspirants but also to everyone who dares to dream. Act now, as effort is the only way to fill the gap between dreams and reality.
