Born and brought up in Warisaliganj, Nawada. Did his intermediate from Science College, Patna. Then went into Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Science, then Christian Medical College, then AIIMS, Delhi, then USA for a fellowship on Cancer Control & Prevention and then back to India. This man did all the good amount of studies to come back to India and spread awareness about Cancer. He has done a number of researches, campaigns, programs to prevent, cure and educate about Cancer. Dr Abhishek Shankar is credited to start and establish Preventive Oncology Department in AIIMS, Delhi and served as Faculty and in charge of same before joining Lad Hardinge Medical College as Assistant Professor in Radiation Oncology. One of his recent research includes, how environment and occupation are related to Cancer? He also has the editorial control for one of the top journals for Cancer, Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention. He has been in news these day for his effort to layout the trouble that Cancer patients are facing due to COVID-19. He has been writing and talking about how most of the Cancer treatment institutes are in the urban cities whereas 70% of the population still lives in the rural part of India. It’s a bit difficult for them as Cancer patients need chemotherapy on a regular basis but due to COVID and lockdown, they are more vulnerable to infection and unable to reach to their required destination. He has also been vocal towards the risk that doctors and health staffs are facing because of the unavailability of basic preventive equipment for them. He says, “I’ve taken the oath that I’ve to serve the patient and to serve humanity but why my son has to be there. He has not taken any oath.
