Know more about this Bihari girl, who left her wedding to attend her semi-finals

Wedding day is one of the most awaited days in anyone’s life. It’s the most life-changing event. Though this day is so relevant a daughter of Bihar, Kushboo Kumari prioritizes her work over her auspicious day. She left for her match on the day of her reception party. On 26 February 2020, she got married to Indian handball player Kanak Kumar where both left their home on 1st March 2020 on her reception party day for the East Zone League Match, Finals, and Sem-finales.

Khushboo Kumari is a handball player from Patel Nagar, Nawada, Bihar. She fell for handball when she was in class 8th. Khushboo belongs to a small town where a girl playing handball was not common. But her love and passion for this game fueled her as she achieved her dreams. With rigorous hard work and constant dedication, she was able to mark her own identity in this field of sport as she has represented Bihar at the national level and represented India at the international level.

Behind her success is a story of constant struggle; struggle to break free from the shackles of society.

We live in a society where, when a girl pursues her career in sports she has to witness a lot of backlashes. This turns worse when the sport is not well recognized.

Khushboo had witnessed similar situations. But nothing could break this girl’s passion. Not the bickering of neighbors, talk of relatives or the general stereotypes of the society.

In 2012, Khushboo was selected by Bihar Handball Association for training at Sports Authority of India center in Lucknow. This marked the beginning of her journey and after this training, she never looked back. Khushboo took part in South Asian Games held in Kathmandu, Nepal. After that, she participated in Tashkent of Uzbekistan in the Asian Woman Club League Handball Championship. She also participated in Cochin Champ held in Patiala. 

Currently, She is the sole Bihari in Indian Handball Women.

 In 2018, she cleared the Bihar Police recruitment test and become the captain of the Bihar Women’s Handball Team. After completing her test he was recruited as a police constable in Bihar Police and this achievement made her more self-independent and confident. Her success made her confident about the choices she made and now she is influencing other girls to chase her dreams.

Khushboo and Kanak have a beautiful love story. They know each other for 10 years now. They both used to play handball from their school time. Khushboo and Kanak both used to practice in the Harichandra Stadium in Nawada. Khushboo got her inspiration by seeing Kanak playing. Kanak Kumar, an Indian Handball player who has represented India in many international matches. For the last 8 years, Kanak is the captain of Bihar Senior handball team. Currently, Kanak is posted at Jamalpur BMP-9 as a  constable. During their practice sessions, they both become good friends and fell in love.

But the journey from love to getting married was not so easy. As a player she had fought many times against the opposite team, in the same manner, she had to fight for her freedom for love too. It was not easy for her to marry Kanak Kumar. Khushboo’s parents do not want her daughter to get married to a player instead they wanted her to married to a government job employee.

Khushboo feels very lucky to have a life partner who supports her in all her life decision.

Khushboo has played several games at home and overseas. With her monthly salary of Rs.28,000, she was able to gift her parents a new home.

With her honest work and dedication, Khushboo has made a remarkable impact on her life and inspires all other rural girls to believe in her dreams and follow her own path. She had made every individual proud.
