Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the Wi-Fi facility at Patna Junction through video-conferencing from Delhi.
A small event was organised at Patna Junction for the inauguration of the Wi-Fi facility. Among others, Union Minister Ram Kripal Yadav and Patna Mayor Afzal Imam attended the function.
Through video-conferencing, Prabhu informed that the Railways will soon start Wi-Fi facilities at nine more stations. He further added that 100 railway stations, including Bihar’s Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Hajipur and Muzaffarpur will have this facility by December 2016.
Rail Tel Corporation Of India Limited (RCIL) and its agencies had set up the Wi-Fi system at Patna Junction in 12 months under the directions of the Railways. The total cost structure of the Wi-Fi system is Rs 2.5 crore and will have yearly maintenance cost of Rs 1 crore.
RailTel’s new broadband service Railwire is being used for providing the Wi-Fi service at Patna Junction.
