Digital reforms for Board exams launched in Bihar

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) on Tuesday opened regional offices in each of the nine divisional headquarters of the state as a one-stop solution centre for students, for various exams and documentation-related work. The regional offices were inaugurated by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. In the current scenario, students from across Bihar have to visit the BSEB headquarters in the state capital for tasks relating to admit cards, marksheets, certificates or re-evaluation of answer papers etc.

The BSEB, in its bid to overcome the ghosts of mass-cheating and topper scams of 2015 and 2016 respectively, has also launched a slew of digital-based exam reforms. These include online registration for exams and distribution of admit cards, mark sheets and certificates, online verification of mark sheets and Aadhaar-based digital locker for students.

Strict measures were put in place to conduct free and fair exams in 2016, but BSEB’s evaluation process came under scanner when so-called “toppers” failed to answer basic questions from their subjects unearthing the scam.

The Board is also gearing up to conduct Class 12 exams for 12.6 lakh students starting February 14, while 17.6 lakh students will appear for Class 10 from March 1. In order to make foolproof arrangements to hold free and fair exam, this year, BSEB chairman Anand Kishor has said all preparations would be the responsibility of the District Magistrates, who will be the chief controllers of examinations in their respective districts.

The Board has also planned for constructing its own examination and evaluation centres in all nine divisional headquarters where thousands of examinees will write papers under strict security, and assessment will be done under CCTV surveillance.
