He was a native of Kusumapura or Pataliputra (present day Patna). His spent his early life in Kusumapura and it is speculated about him to be the head of Nalanda University.
He is also reputed to have set up an observatory at the Sun temple in Taregana, Bihar.
Apart from this his works majorly constituted Mathematics and astronomy and he is very famously known as the inventor of 0 (zero). India’s first satellite and a lunar crater are named in his honour. Also, an Institute (ARIES) near Nainital for conducting research in astronomy, astrophysics and atmospheric sciences, is named after him. The inter-school Maths Competition is also named after him, as is Bacillus, a species of bacteria discovered in the stratosphere by ISRO scientists in 2009.

Born in November 1777 to Raja Shahabzada Singh and Rani Panchratan Devi, in Jagdispur of the Shahabad (now Bhojpur) District, in the state of Bihar. This person belonged to the Ujjainiya Rajput clan. The Indian Rebellion of 1857 in Bihar was led by him when he was nearly eighty and was in failing health, he was called upon to take up arms. He gave a good fight and harried British forces for nearly a year and remained invincible until the end. He is considered to be an expert in the art of guerilla warfare.

To honour his memory and his contribution to India’s freedom movement, the Republic of India issued a commemorative stamp on 23 April 1966.
This person was born on 1 January 1942 in Begusarai, Bihar. He was a scholar, thinker and public servant and has written several books and articles. His early education was in a village school and later at the universities of Patna and Oxford. At Oxford University, he obtained a Master of Arts Degree. He has authored “Our India”, NCERT, among many other books. Later he became the Executive Director and Ambassador at the World Bank during 1999-2002 representing India, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. He was also one of the founder members of the Development Gateway Foundation (DGF) and member, Global Environment Facility (GEF), Washington D.C.

Winner of “India’s Next Top Model” season two and aims in the next five years to be a Bollywood actress. She started modelling in 2012 when she bagged the title of Miss May Queen Ball. This girl went on to win Miss Alcheringa 2013 and the same year she was 1st runner-up at Miss Waves. She became the 1st runner-up at Miss NDA in 2014 and in 2015, she won ‘She’s Got the Look’. She is currently pursuing a degree in design and has already designed for Miss India 2015 paegant. Apart from this, she is also a great belly dancer.

Born a healthy child in the year 1973, he got affected with polio 2 years later.
The disease effected him physically but mentally he remained unharmed.
His extraordinary will power made him a sort of a local hero and got him the nick name, ‘Daredevil’.
In 2014, he climbed down Patna’s tallest building Biscomaun Bhawan using ropes. Along with being an avid social worker, he also runs an NGO ‘Disabled Sports and Welfare Academy’ at Anishbad which was established in 2002.

Born in Churamanpur village near Buxar, Bihar. This person completed his graduation with a BSc degree from Allahabad University in 1954, and obtained an MSc degree in Zoology from Patna University in 1956. He then taught Zoology at the Ranchi College, Jharkhand, from November 1956 to July 1961. After this, he went to the US to complete his PhD at the University of Missouri in Columbia. He became a part of the scientific team which made two expeditions to Antarctica in 1972 and 1974.
Due to his work on the expedition, a 990 meter (3248 feet) high mountain located in the southeast extremity of Erickson Bluffs, in the southern part of McDonalds Heights, has been named after him.
