Cricket is considered to be a religion in our country. It is a popular sport in India that is played in every Indian gully. Many cricketers from Bihar have brought pride to the state. This time we have a new name in the list ,Ashutosh Aman, who has recently been honored with the “domestic cricketer of the year award” in the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards. He now holds the record for most wickets taken in a Ranji Trophy season by any bowler. With this, Ashutosh becomes the first Bihari to get this award.
The dedicated cricketer hails from Gaya district of Bihar. Ashutosh is a left arm spinner and right handed bats man. He started playing cricket as a teenager for his district. He played district level cricket in the state and scored brilliantly. He debuted for Bihar in Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2014-15.
Later, he got a job as an accountant in the accounts department of Indian Air Force, Delhi, under sports quota and where he made his list debut in November, 2014. This is where his interest in the game flourished. There he played some 50 over games which helped him improve his game.
When cricket teams from Bihar got the permission to play tournaments affiliated to BCCI, Ashutosh Aman decided to come back to his state. He performed well in the district level cricket and soon he was selected in the Bihar squad for Vijay Hazare in 2017-18. But, Ashutosh was diligent throughout the tournament as he took fourteen wickets in eight matches. This gave him the golden opportunity to earn the ticket to Ranji Trophy.
He debuted in the country’s prestigious domestic tournament, the Ranji Trophy with Bihar winning their first match with 395 runs. In the last encounter of the season, he managed to take 11 wickets. In this tournament, a major record was created by the extremely talented Ashutosh Aman who took 68 wickets with a mind-blowing average of 6.48 breaking the record by the former Indian cricket captain Bishan Singh Bedi in a tournament of 1974-75.This record was broken after 44 long years.
Talking about his performance, Avinash says,
“I was really happy when I broke the record but of course there’s no comparison. Bedi sir is a legend. I am just happy that I could achieve this.”
The award ceremony had many cricketers from Indian team like Jaspreet Bumrah, Cheteshwar Pujara, Kuldeep Yadav, Gautam Gambhir and Ajinkya Rahane. Adding more about the award received,Aman says,
“I was an honor to receive this award in front of cricket legends like Sunil Gavaskar Sir and Mohinder Amarnath sir.”
Aman is hopeful that his state will go one step further in the next season. He hopes of getting an IPL contract. We believe that Ashutosh Aman will be the flag bearer of change in the current scenario of cricket in our state. The state feels proud and this news has brought a ray of hope for coming generation who dreams a career in cricket.
