Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat this week said women wearing ripped jeans cannot provide the right environment at home for children.
Bihari Girls joined the outcry over new Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat’s comment about woman degrading society by wearing ripped jeans , posting photos of themselves in ripped jeans. All these images started trending under the hashtag #RippedJeans on various social media platforms.
Recently, Uttarakhand’s CM gave a controversial comment on women wearing ripped jeans and how they cannot – he feels – provide the right environment at home for children. Mr Rawat made the comments on Tuesday at a workshop organised by the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in Dehradun. Sharing an incident, He said he was shocked to see a woman running an NGO in ripped jeans and was concerned about the example she was setting for society and new generation.
The statement by Mr Rawat was widely criticized as misogynistic and sexist. As a result, Internet went crazy with thousands of people posting memes and jokes and making fun of Mr Tirath’s statement . Bihari girls also joined this campaign and showed their anger by posting pictures of themselves in ripped jeans on Facebook and Instagram.

In another post , Deputy Director at Doordarshan Bihar Sweta Singh posts picture of hers in ripped jeans and said that how can people dictate anyone what to wear. Women can’t be judged by dressing, She added.
Blogger Vidushi shared a picture of hers in shorts and write , “Ripped jeans ki baat ho rahi thi. Iss ladki ne to ripped shorts pehne hain!”
Yashi Malviya , Owner and Founder at Probox Media also shared a picture of hers with caption , ” Women wearing ripped jeans destroy culture.”
Another Facebook user Adita Dwija Khan also showed her anger against Uttarakhand’s CM.
