We are inspired by your commitment and determination to serve underprivileged communities.’ These sentences were written in the acceptance letter sent to prem Kumar a 17-year-old boy of a daily wage worker from Patna, Phulwari Sharif Gaunpura village in Bihar by the Dean of admission Matthew S. Hyde of Lafayette college.
As he received a scholarship of ₹2.5cr to complete his graduate degree in the USA.
He is not only the first Mahadalit to get this scholarship but also the first boy from his family to pursue graduation. He is in 12th standard from shoshitSamadhan Kendra a boy’s school affiliated with CBSE and later on, he will fly to the US for completing his 4-year mechanical engineering and international relations course. His family comes under the below poverty line category and they come from the MahadalitMushar community .his father is a daily wage worker and holds a ration card.
Lafayette College in the USA is a leading engineering school and was established in 1826 and has consistently been ranked among the 25 top colleges in America.
Kumar’s bills including residence bills tuition fees books travel and health insurance will be covered under the scholarship worth ₹ 2.5 crores as it is a full ride offered by the college.
According to the reports one of 6 students from across the world has received the prestigious Dyer’s Fellowship and Prem Kumar is one of them. According to Lafayette college, the fellowship and other scholarship are offered to those chosen students who has patience and can drive to tackle the world’s most challenging and toughest problem. Who has the motivation and commitment to solving these problems .
After being selected for the scholarship program Prem said his parents never went to school and getting this scholarship and the opportunity to study abroad is incredible for him he also thanked Dexterity Global organisation which is working for the mahadalit children in Bihar he said “it is because of them that I have got this success today I am happy”.

His father is a daily wage earner. Prem has been selected to study at the prestigious Lafayette College in the US on a ₹2.5 crore scholarship. He is likely the first Mahadalit student in India to achieve this feat.”
Prem was selected at the age of 14 for training by the National Organisation dexterity global which works for the mahadalit community in Bihar according to prem this community has helped him to achieve this success.
Today not only his father Jitan Manjhi , but the whole of Bihar and the whole of India is proud of the achievement of this 17-year-old boy.
