A Musical Literature Event ‘Adab-a-Mausiqi’ to be held in Patna

Navras School of Performing Arts is organizing its 93rd event a first of its kind event ever to be hosted in the country. This event is called “अदब- ए – मौसिकी” (Adab-a-Mausiqi) – dedicated to ‘Literature on Music’ – the Lives of Musicians, the Gharana tradition of Hindustani Classical music and the Tawaif and Devdasi tradition will be held at Taramandal Auditorium, Patna. It will be a day and a half event where 18 renowned Authors and Musicians will be participating, to include Noted Carnatic Vocalist and Academy Award Nominee Smt.Bombay Jayashri, Shri Pavan K Varma, Yatindra Mishra, Namita Devidayal, Dr Swarnamalya Ganesh-Tamil actor, Bharatnatyam Dancer, Historian and Fullbright Scholar who besides her talk on Devdasi tradition will also enact the Devdasi dance.

The event will start at 05:00pm on 21st September 2019. Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad will inaugurate the event. After the inauguration the team will honor Vidushi Padma Talwalkar of Jaipur -Atrauli Gharana for her contribution to Hindustani Classical Music. Thereafter an interesting session on – The Music and the Maestros- Yatindra Mishra, Vikram Sampath, Namiata Devidayal, moderated by Shinjini Kumar. This will be followed by concert – “स्वरों की वर्षा- संगीत विद् “– ‘Meeta Pandit का गायन ‘around 06:30pm.

22nd September is a daylong event, which is well curated with engrossing topics on music, musicians and their traditions. The session will be started at 10:00 am with ‘Dhrupad Gayaki of Darbhanga Gharana’ by Nishant & Prashant Mallick and thereafter 6 sessions / panel discussion as below :-

1. Nazakat, Rivwayat, Ada: Thumri, Gazal and the Tawaif Tradition- Arun Singh, Akhilesh Jha & Vidya Shah, Moderated by Mr. S. K. Jha

2. Devpriya and Devdasi: From Eternal to Classical – Pavan K Varma & Swarnamalya Ganesh, Moderator: Sujata Prasad. Swarnamalya Ganesh will do a devdasi dance,just a demo during this session as well.

3. Gharana: From Where the Music Flows -Irfan Zuberi, Meeta Pandit, Padma Talwarkar & Ajit Pradhan, moderation: Mr Akhilesh Jha.

4. Taking a Note: Writing on Indian Classical Music – Aneesh Pradhan, Namita Devidayal & Akhilesh Jha moderated by Shinjini Kumar.

5. A Musical Rendezvous -Vikram Sampath in conversation with Bombay Jayashri.

6. Rawayati Purab-Ang Gayaki – Irfan Zuberi in conversation with Vidya Rao and Saira Begum.

The festival will conclude with ‘Avartan’ – The Poetry of Percussion featuring renowned Tabla Player featuring ‘Taal-Yogi’ Pandit Suresh Talwalkar The venue will be decked up like a bride with a huge collage of photographs of Musicians and promises to be a wonderful treat to eyes.
