5 facts about Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib you must know

Patna City, popularly known as Patna Sahib, located in the outskirts of the city. It is adorned with many tourist areas, one of which is the calming Gurudwara, Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib Ji. This is not a Gurudwara but a best tourist spot which attracts good  number of tourists every year. Here we will tell you some facts about the place.

1.Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib Ji is a prominent tourist attraction in Patna. It was built in the 18th Century. It is said that Guru Sri Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji also paid a visit to this beautiful shrine.

2.The Harmandir Takht is dedicated to the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh, who was born in the region in 1666. It is one of the holiest of the five takhts/seats of authority of the Sikhs. The devotees also call the place as Patna Sahib respectfully.

3.The awe inspiring monument we saw today has gone through many demolitions. In 1837, a part of the temple caught fire and was totally damaged. Maharaja Ranjit Singh then reconstructed the temple. Bihar witnessed a massive earthquake in 1934, which broke down some part of the temple. It was again reconstructed in 1954.

4.The Gurudwara has a small museum in its premises which houses relics belonging to the Sikh Gurus. These relics include hand written orders known as “Hukumnamas” compiled in a book. A sacred sword, a pair of sandals made of ivory, four iron arrows and a cradle with gold plated stands are among the many ancient relics which are preserves efficiently till date.

5.Along with the Gurudwara, Patna Sahib also boasts of many eye soothing sites located nearby. Mangal Talab is a large pond near the Gurudwara, fenced from all sides. “Guru ke Baag,” a well maintained garden is also placed nearby. It is said that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji had stayed here for some time and the owner lovingly presented the garden to Guru Maharaj.
