Textbooks to be digitized soon through ‘Diksha’ at Bihar Government Schools

Bihar is heading towards digitization of all textbooks in government schools, said Sanjay Kumar Singh, State Project Director, Bihar Education Project Council. ‘Diksha’ has been launched at a function on 7th January 2020. The DIKSHA platform offers teachers, students and parents engaging learning material relevant to the prescribed school curriculum. Teachers have access to aids like lesson plans, worksheets and activities, to create enjoyable classroom experiences. Students understand concepts, revise lessons and do practice exercises. Parents can follow classroom activities and clear doubts outside school hours.

DIKSHA is a customizable National Digital Infrastructure for teacher-centric initiatives for use by States, Teacher Education Institutes (TEI) and private entities. Teachers can use DIKSHA to access and create high quality teaching, learning and assessment resources in all subjects and for all standards in English and many Indian languages. Teachers can use the platform for their entire career span – from when they are student teachers at TEIs until after they retire – to capture, authenticate and share their work, contributions and achievements. The DIKSHA platform strengthens the hands of ‘Our Teachers Our Heroes’.

“We are planning to integrate the Educational Management Information System(EMIS) with ‘Diksha’ in future”, said Sanjay Kumar. An initiative of the BEPC, EMIS contains information like the number of government schools, teachers, students, infrastructure and implementation of schemes. The state government is looking forward to developing a content lab on the SCERT premises in Mahendru, as announced by the BEPC director.

This step has been taken to improve the teaching and learning methods, with the help of digital books, videos and online content. Diksha app will provide many benefits to the teaching process, The teachers will find interactive and engaging teaching material, adding to it sharing best practices with other teachers to explain difficult concepts to students. It will include courses for professional development and badges and certificates on completion. The app will provide all the official announcements from the state department. It will help in conducting digital assessments to check students’ understanding of a topic.
