Bihar Govt launches WhatsApp number to lodge complaints against child labour

Deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Monday launched WhatsApp number 9471229133 on which one can lodge any complaint related to child labour in the state. He also flagged off five advocacy and communication vansequipped with audiovisual facility to create awareness about child labour on the World Day Against Child Labour.

State labour resources department principal secretary Dipak Kumar Singh told, the vans would travel to different places in Patna district. Songs against child labour would be played on the van carrying artists to stage street play at different places. These vans have already travelled to other districts of the state from June 9 to 12 and rescued 150 child labourers, he said.

Kumar also asked people to lodge complaints on the WhatsApp number launched for the purpose. “Anyone can either click the photo and upload it or simply send us a text regarding child labour. Our team will verify the complaint and rescue the child,” he said.

State labour resources department minister Vijay Prakash, who chaired the programme, said the process to start residential schools for rescued child labourers had begun and schools in seven districts would be opened in the first phase.

A revised state’s proposed action plan for child labour eradication and rehabilitation was also released on the occasion to take public opinion. The action plan would also be available on the labour resources department’s website for common people to give their suggestions. After one month, a final action plan would be prepared.
A proposal has been made to form a committee of principal secretaries of education, social welfare and labour resources departments for regular follow-up of rescued child rehabilitation.
During the programme, children from Bihar Bal Bhawan Kilkari and Rainbow Home staged a play showcasing the pain suffered by child labourers. Through the play, they also informed the audience about various government schemes for such children and their families.

State social welfare department minister Manju Verma, labour commissioner Gopal Meena, joint labour commissioner Sujit Roy, IG (weaker section, CID) Anil Kishor Yadav and member-secretary of Bihar state legal services authority Sunil Dutt Mishra were present on the occasion.
